Chapter Eleven

Days had passed since she spent the night with Alec. Each day they would have a lunch date, or he would stop by Heads N’ Tails on his way home from work. She even stopped by his condo after work a couple of times. He had mentioned that he would stop by some time during her shift, so she kept watch over who came in the club.

The club had been steadily busy since opening night. She was starting to see which customers would be the regulars on this level. As most nights, the seal shifters were playing in the pool and putting on a show. Annette came in with Tony and sat at the end of the bar while he was in the office printing out the weekly reports.

“Where’s your help?” Annette asked when Hannah handed her a drink.

“Kayauna’s on break.” Hannah looked at her phone for the time. “She should be back in the next fifteen minutes.”

“How’s she working out?” Annette took a long draw from her fruity cocktail.

“She’s better than she was. Once she gets used to the constant flow, I think she’ll be alright. She tries hard.” The past week Hannah had been showing Kayuana tricks to get faster with drinks, so a line didn’t form at the bar.

“That’s good. Tony was worried she wouldn’t be able to cut it,” Annette admitted.

“Can I get a Jack and Coke?” A man asked squeezing in next to Annette. Instantly, the foul odor coming from him made Hannah want to gag.

“Sure thing.” Hannah turned quickly to escape the smell.

Her nose crinkled as she grabbed a glass off the shelf. For a second, she thought she was going to sneeze. The tiny hairs on the inside of her nose tingled but the feeling passed as she poured his drink. She recognized the man. He’d been in the club multiple times since they opened last week. Each time his smell was just as strong.

“Here you go.” She placed his drink in front of him. He handed her his membership card for her to swipe. Too bad the register was within arm distance of where she stood. She held her breath while ringing up his drink.

“I’ve seen the way you act around me. Makes you feel things.” He raised his eyebrows at her. “How about we get some breakfast after your shift?”

“That would be a big no.” She held his card out to him without stepping closer. She wondered as to what would make him think she wanted a date with him. The only thing she felt around him was nauseated. With a harsh look, the man snatched the card from her hand and stormed off.

“Wow, that was bold.” Annette passed her empty glass to Hannah. “Can I get a refill?”

“Sure,” she took the glass and started pulling bottles from the shelf. “I wish that dude would shower before he came in here.”

“What do you mean?” Annette asked and looked back into the crowd where the man disappeared amongst the people.

“You don’t smell his man funk?” She poured multiple liquors into the cocktail shaker.
